Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is an Indian classical dance form from the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. One of the oldest dance forms of India, Bharatanatyam was nurtured in the temples and was later codified and documented as a performing art form in the 19th Century by the Tanjore Quartet, whose musical compositions for dance, form a bulk of the Bharatanatyam repertoire till date.

Within the Bharatanatyam dance form, there are various schools of styles called BaniHere at TFA, teachers from the Dandayuthapani and Vazhuvoor banis have imbibed the strength of nritta, fluidity of movement, and beauty of abhinaya of these styles in our students and teachers. Further being exposed to and trained in the Kalakshetra style, we have gradually expanded our boundaries in both teaching and execution. With this, we have carved a very unique style of Bharatanatyam that we teach – a combination of the Dhandayuthapani, Vazhoor and Kalakshetra banis, adopting the beautiful aspects of each style to create a unique style that is distinctive to TFA.

At TFA, we believe in nurturing every student to the best of their capacity. Focusing on strengthening the foundation of adavus for the first few years, teachers groom students at a pace that is manageable by them.

Apart from the syllabus, Bharatanatyam students of TFA receive many opportunities to perform within and outside TFA, allowing them to grow, gain experience, and become holistic performers.
